The HELICAL SOLUTIONS 81480 is a 3-flute solid carbide square end mill designed for high-performance milling in metalworking and precision machining applications. With a 1/2 inch cutting diameter and a 5/8 inch length of cut, it handles slotting, profiling, and peripheral milling operations in a single-end configuration. The 40-degree helix angle promotes efficient chip evacuation and smooth cutting action. A Zplus coating provides enhanced wear resistance and lubricity, extending tool life in ferrous and non-ferrous materials. The variable index flute spacing reduces harmonic chatter during cuts, improving surface finish and dimensional accuracy.
This end mill is suited for CNC machining centers and manual mills in job shop, production, and tool-and-die environments. The 1/2 inch straight-cylindrical shank fits standard ER collet chucks, end mill holders, and hydraulic toolholders. The 1-3/4 inch reach length allows access into deeper pockets and cavities without requiring extended-length tooling in many setups. The extended reach geometry makes it viable for side-wall milling on tall workpieces. Machinists working steel alloys, stainless, titanium, and hardened materials will find the solid carbide substrate and Zplus coating appropriate for demanding cutting conditions.
Designed as a direct-fit replacement for 1/2 inch diameter square end mills in standard ER collet, end mill holder, and hydraulic toolholder setups on CNC machining centers and manual milling machines accepting a 1/2 inch straight-cylindrical shank.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist following machine tool manufacturer guidelines. Ensure the spindle is fully stopped and the machine is in a safe, locked-out state before changing tooling. Insert the shank to the recommended engagement depth in the toolholder and torque retention screws or collet nuts per toolholder manufacturer specifications. Verify tool runout with a dial indicator after clamping to confirm concentricity before beginning a cut.
