The HELICAL SOLUTIONS 81449 is a solid carbide corner radius end mill designed for high-performance material removal in both roughing and finishing operations. It features a 1/2 inch mill diameter, a 1-1/4 inch length of cut, and a 0.0100 inch corner radius that reduces stress concentrations at part corners and extends tool life. The three-flute, single-end design runs right-hand cutting with a right-hand flute direction and a high helix angle of 40 degrees. Variable pitch geometry helps suppress chatter during aggressive cuts. This tool is intended for use by machinists and CNC operators working in production or job-shop environments requiring consistent dimensional accuracy.
The 81449 is optimized primarily for non-ferrous metals and aluminum, and is also rated for use in steel, stainless steel, cast iron, high-temperature alloys, and hard materials. It fits standard 1/2 inch straight-cylindrical shank toolholders and is recommended for use with high-precision toolholders to take full advantage of its 0.0003 inch maximum TIR specification. It belongs to the H40ALV-3 series, which targets applications demanding tight tolerances and clean surface finishes across a range of workpiece materials.
Designed for use in CNC machining centers and manual mills with 1/2 inch straight-cylindrical shank toolholders; recommended for high-precision toolholders per manufacturer guidance. Primary material application is aluminum and non-ferrous metals, with secondary compatibility across steel, stainless steel, cast iron, high-temperature alloys, and hard materials.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist following shop safety procedures. Power down and lock out the spindle before seating or removing the tool. Use a high-precision collet or toolholder to maintain runout within the rated 0.0003 inch TIR maximum. Verify shank seating depth and tool projection before initiating a cut, and confirm spindle direction is set to right-hand before operation.
