The HELICAL SOLUTIONS 81408 is a 3-flute solid carbide square end mill designed for aluminum milling applications. It features a 5/16 inch cutting diameter, a 3/4 inch length of cut, and a 40-degree helix angle that promotes efficient chip evacuation in non-ferrous materials. The variable index flute spacing reduces harmonic vibration during cuts, improving surface finish and tool life. A Zplus coating provides lubricity and thermal resistance suited to aluminum alloys. This tool is a single-end, center-cutting design with a straight cylindrical shank and right-hand cut and flute direction. It is typically purchased and installed by machinists and CNC operators working in production or job-shop environments.
This end mill is built for aluminum and other non-ferrous materials in both conventional and climb milling operations. The 40-degree helix angle and variable pitch geometry help prevent chip re-cutting and built-up edge, which are common failure modes when machining aluminum at higher feed rates and spindle speeds. The 2-1/2 inch overall length and 5/16 inch shank diameter make it compatible with standard collet chucks and end mill holders used on vertical machining centers, CNC routers, and manual knee mills. It is suited to finish and semi-finish passes where surface quality and dimensional accuracy are priorities.
Designed for use in the HELICAL SOLUTIONS End Mills for Aluminum - 3 Flute - Square - 40 Degree Helix - Variable Pitch series. Compatible with standard 5/16 inch collet chucks, end mill holders, and shrink-fit tooling used on CNC machining centers and compatible milling machines.
Installation is performed by machinists and CNC tooling setters. Ensure the spindle is fully stopped and the machine is in a safe state before changing tooling. Seat the shank fully into the collet or holder and torque the retention mechanism according to the toolholder manufacturer specifications. Verify runout with a dial indicator before production cuts to protect both the tool and the workpiece.
