The HELICAL SOLUTIONS 59449 is a solid carbide, 6-flute ball end mill designed for high-performance roughing and finishing in demanding metalworking applications. Built to the HEV-6 series specification, it features a variable index geometry that reduces harmonics and chatter during aggressive cuts. The 0.5000-inch diameter cutter carries an APLUS PVD coating applied over the carbide substrate, improving lubricity and wear resistance at elevated cutting temperatures. With a 1.6250-inch length of cut and a 4.0000-inch overall length, this tool is suited for medium-depth profiling, contouring, and 3D surfacing operations. It is installed by machinists and CNC operators working in job shops, tool rooms, and production environments.
This end mill is engineered primarily for steel and stainless steel machining, with rated capability in cast iron and high-temperature alloys as well. The ball nose profile and 0.2500-inch nose radius make it well suited for 3D contour milling, die and mold work, and complex surface finishing passes where a radiused tip is required. The right-hand cut and right-hand spiral flute configuration are standard for conventional CNC milling setups. The straight-cylindrical shank accepts standard ER or side-lock toolholders in the 0.5000-inch bore size.
Designed for use in CNC machining centers and manual mills with standard 0.5000-inch bore toolholders. Primary workpiece materials are steel, stainless steel, cast iron, and high-temperature alloys (ISO material codes P, M, K, S). Secondary workpiece material is steel (ISO code P).
This tool is installed by machinists using standard ER collet chucks, shrink-fit holders, or side-lock holders sized for a 0.5000-inch shank diameter. Confirm runout does not exceed the 0.0005-inch TIR maximum before beginning a cut, as excessive runout accelerates edge wear and reduces surface quality. Always bring the spindle to a complete stop before handling or measuring the tool. Follow machine tool manufacturer guidelines and applicable shop safety procedures when setting offsets and tool length compensation.
