The HELICAL SOLUTIONS 59396 is a 5-flute solid carbide corner radius end mill engineered for aggressive roughing in steel, cast iron, stainless steel, and superalloys including titanium. It carries a 0.50 mm (0.0200 inch) corner radius, a 1/4 inch cutting diameter, and a 1/2 inch length of cut. The APLUS PVD coating provides thermal and wear resistance suited for high-speed steel roughing applications. A chipbreaker geometry on the flutes breaks chips into manageable segments, reducing heat buildup and cutting forces during deep material removal. This tool is installed and used by machinists and CNC operators working in job shop, production, and tool room environments.
This end mill is designed for roughing operations on low-alloy steel, medium alloy steel, tool steel, and cast iron as primary workpiece materials, with stainless steel and superalloys and titanium as secondary applications. The variable pitch (variable index) design reduces harmonic chatter during high-feed passes, making it well suited for aggressive side milling and pocketing in vertical and horizontal machining centers. It accepts a straight-cylindrical shank and is recommended for use with high-precision toolholders to maintain runout control. Single-end configuration with centercutting capability allows plunge entry where required.
Primary workpiece materials are low-alloy steel, medium alloy steel, tool steel, and cast iron (material codes P and K). Secondary workpiece materials are stainless steel and superalloys and titanium (material codes M and S). Recommended for use with high-precision toolholders. Series: HEV-C-5.
Installation is performed by a machinist or CNC setup technician. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before inserting or removing the tool from the toolholder. Use a high-precision collet or shrink-fit toolholder to keep TIR within specification — maximum TIR for this tool is 0.0005 inches. Verify runout at the cutting diameter before beginning a production run, and confirm that feeds, speeds, and depth of cut are set per the tool manufacturer guidelines for the target workpiece material.
