The HELICAL SOLUTIONS 49271 is a 3-flute, solid carbide ball end mill designed for high-performance milling of aluminum alloys and other non-ferrous materials. Built with a 40-degree high helix angle and variable pitch geometry, this single-end tool delivers efficient chip evacuation and reduced chatter during both roughing and finishing passes. The ball nose profile produces a 0.25-inch nose radius, making it well-suited for contoured surface work and 3D profiling operations. A Zplus PVD coating protects the cutting edges and extends tool life in demanding non-ferrous applications. At 0.5 inches in diameter with a straight-cylindrical shank and h6 tolerance on both the mill and shank diameters, this end mill seats accurately in standard collet and toolholder systems.
This end mill is intended for CNC machining centers and manual mills where aluminum alloys and non-ferrous metals are the primary workpiece material. The variable pitch flute spacing helps suppress harmonic vibration at higher spindle speeds, which is common when machining soft, gummy materials like aluminum. With a 1-inch length of cut and 3-inch overall length, it handles moderate-depth pockets, slots, and contoured profiles without excessive overhang. It is suitable for both production shops and job shops running non-ferrous components.
Designed for use with aluminum alloys and non-ferrous metals (material code N). Fits standard 1/2-inch collets, end mill holders, and hydraulic toolholders with a straight-cylindrical shank interface.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC setup technician. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and the tool changer or collet nut is properly torqued per the toolholder manufacturer's specifications before operation. Confirm shank engagement meets the toolholder's minimum clamping depth recommendation to avoid pullout under cutting loads. Inspect the collet and bore for chips or wear before seating the tool.
