The HELICAL SOLUTIONS 48460 is a solid carbide corner radius end mill engineered for high-performance material removal in aluminum and non-ferrous metals. Built on the H40ALV-3 series platform, it features a 1/2 inch mill diameter, a 2 inch length of cut, and a 1/64 inch (0.0150 inch) corner radius. The variable-pitch geometry reduces harmonic chatter during aggressive cuts, while the high 40-degree helix promotes chip evacuation critical when machining soft, gummy aluminum alloys. Three flutes, right-hand cutting and right-hand flute direction, single end, center-cutting configuration. Designed for machinists running high-precision toolholders in CNC milling applications.
This end mill is suited for both roughing and finishing passes in aluminum and non-ferrous metal applications. It also carries secondary compatibility with steel, stainless steel, cast iron, high-temperature alloys, and hard materials, making it a versatile option across job shop and production environments. The uncoated bright finish is intentional for aluminum work, preventing the built-up edge issues associated with certain coatings on non-ferrous materials. Typical install scenarios include vertical and horizontal CNC mills using precision collet chucks or shrink-fit toolholders where the TIR maximum of 0.0003 inch can be maintained.
Designed for use with high-precision toolholders. Primary workpiece material is aluminum and non-ferrous metals; secondary workpiece materials include steel, stainless steel, cast iron, high-temperature alloys, and hard materials. Series: H40ALV-3.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist familiar with CNC tooling setup procedures. Secure the shank fully within the toolholder to the manufacturer-recommended engagement depth before tightening. Verify runout with a dial indicator prior to cutting, as the TIR maximum of 0.0003 inch requires a precision collet or shrink-fit holder in good condition. Never exceed the toolholder's rated clamping torque range, and confirm spindle speed and feed rate parameters are appropriate for the workpiece material before beginning a cut.
