The HELICAL SOLUTIONS 48450 is a solid carbide, three-flute corner radius end mill designed for high-efficiency milling in aluminum and non-ferrous metals, with secondary capability in steel, stainless steel, cast iron, high-temperature alloys, and hard materials. It features a 0.5-inch mill diameter, a 1.625-inch length of cut, and a 0.125-inch corner radius, making it well suited for finishing and semi-finishing passes where edge integrity matters. The 40-degree variable-index helix (Series H40ALV-3) reduces chatter and improves chip evacuation. This end mill is centercutting, right-hand cut, right-hand flute, and shipped uncoated (bright finish). It is installed by machinists and CNC tooling technicians in production and job-shop environments.
The 48450 is primarily intended for aluminum and non-ferrous metal applications, including aerospace and general manufacturing work where clean surface finishes and tight tolerances are required. The variable pitch geometry helps suppress vibration during both roughing and finishing passes. With a 4-inch overall length and a straight-cylindrical 0.5-inch shank, it fits standard collet chucks and shrink-fit holders. The manufacturer specifies use with high-precision toolholders to achieve the rated TIR maximum of 0.0003 inches. It is a single-end tool with a standard-length flute configuration and spiral flute type. No coolant-through feature is present.
Designed for use with high-precision toolholders. Primary workpiece material is aluminum and non-ferrous metal (Material Application Code: N); secondary workpiece materials include steel, stainless steel, cast iron, high-temperature alloys, and hard materials (Codes: P, M, S, H). Part of the H40ALV-3 series.
Installation and tool changes should be performed by qualified machinists or CNC tooling technicians with the machine powered down and the spindle fully stopped. Seat the straight-cylindrical shank fully into a high-precision collet chuck or shrink-fit holder and torque the retention hardware per the toolholder manufacturer specifications. Verify runout with a dial indicator before cutting to confirm TIR is within acceptable limits. Do not exceed the rated depth of cut or feed rate for the workpiece material being machined.
