The HELICAL SOLUTIONS 48405 is a solid carbide corner radius end mill designed for high-efficiency material removal and finishing in aluminum and non-ferrous metals. With a 1/2 inch mill diameter, 1-1/4 inch length of cut, and a 0.03 inch corner radius, this single-end tool delivers both roughing and finishing capability in one pass. The 3-flute, right-hand spiral geometry is optimized for chip evacuation in gummy non-ferrous materials, while the variable pitch design reduces harmonic vibration during aggressive cuts. The uncoated bright finish suits aluminum applications where coating buildup or chemical reaction with coated tools is a concern. This tool is installed and operated by machinists and CNC tooling specialists in job shop and production environments.
The 48405 belongs to the H40ALV-3 series, engineered specifically for aluminum and non-ferrous metal cutting with secondary capability in steel, stainless steel, cast iron, high temperature alloys, and hard materials. The high helix angle promotes efficient chip flow in deep-pocket and slotting operations. It is centercutting, enabling plunge entry without a pre-drilled pilot hole. Straight-cylindrical shank geometry at 1/2 inch diameter is compatible with high precision toolholders and standard ER collet systems. Overall length is 3 inches, keeping the tool compact for rigidity in demanding applications.
Designed for use with high precision toolholders. Primary workpiece material is aluminum and non-ferrous metals; secondary materials include steel, stainless steel, cast iron, high temperature alloys, and hard materials. Part of the H40ALV-3 series.
Installation and tool changes must be performed with the machine spindle fully stopped and the control in a safe state. Seat the straight-cylindrical shank fully into the collet or toolholder to the recommended gauge-line depth before torquing. Verify runout does not exceed the maximum TIR specification of 0.0003 inches before beginning a cut. Follow machine manufacturer guidelines and applicable shop safety procedures when setting tool offsets and confirming feeds and speeds for the workpiece material.
