The HELICAL SOLUTIONS 48040 is a solid carbide corner radius end mill engineered for precision material removal in both roughing and finishing operations. Built to Series H40ALV-3 specifications, it features a 3/16-inch mill diameter, a 3/8-inch length of cut, and a 0.0300-inch corner radius with a tight tolerance of -0.0020 to 0.0020 inches. The 3-flute, single-end design uses a variable-pitch, high-helix spiral flute geometry to reduce chatter and improve chip evacuation. An overall length of 2 inches and a 3/16-inch straight-cylindrical shank make it compatible with high-precision toolholders. The bright/uncoated finish is ideal for non-ferrous metals and aluminum where coating adhesion is a concern. This tool is installed and operated by machinists and CNC tooling professionals.
The 48040 is primarily suited for non-ferrous metal and aluminum machining, with secondary capability across steel, stainless steel, cast iron, high-temperature alloys, and hard materials. Its stub-length flute geometry and centercutting capability make it well-suited for slotting, profiling, and plunge operations on CNC machining centers and manual mills requiring tight tolerances and smooth corner blends. The variable-pitch construction addresses vibration at higher feed rates, making it a practical choice in both production and prototype environments where surface finish and dimensional accuracy are critical.
Designed for use with high-precision toolholders in CNC and manual milling applications. Primary workpiece material is non-ferrous metal and aluminum; secondary compatibility includes steel, stainless steel, cast iron, high-temperature alloys, and hard materials. Series H40ALV-3.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and the tool is secured in a high-precision toolholder to the manufacturer-recommended gauge length before operation. Verify runout does not exceed the specified TIR maximum of 0.0003 inches using a dial indicator before commencing cuts. Do not exceed the tool's rated length of cut when taking full-depth passes.
