The HELICAL SOLUTIONS 46360 is a single-end, solid carbide square end mill designed for cutting aluminum and other non-ferrous materials. It features a 1/2 inch mill diameter, three helical flutes ground at a 40-degree helix angle, and a variable index (unequal flute spacing) geometry that reduces chatter and harmonic vibration during high-speed machining. The 5/8 inch length of cut and extended reach design with a reduced neck allow access to deeper pockets and slots without requiring a longer overall tool. Machinists and CNC operators in production shops or job shops install this tool in standard 1/2 inch toolholders for aluminum profiling, slotting, and contouring operations.
This end mill is built for aluminum and non-ferrous workpiece materials, making it a fit for aerospace, automotive, and general machining environments where clean, efficient chip evacuation is critical. The uncoated bright finish is suited for aluminum applications where coatings can cause material adhesion issues. The 3-3/8 inch reach length supports deep-pocket milling scenarios where clearance from the toolholder is needed. Right-hand cutting and right-hand flute direction conform to standard CNC mill spindle configurations. The 5 inch overall length provides adequate stick-out flexibility across common setups.
Designed for use in standard 1/2 inch straight-shank toolholders on CNC or manual milling machines. Primary workpiece material is aluminum and non-ferrous alloys. Part of the HELICAL SOLUTIONS End Mills for Aluminum series featuring 3-flute square geometry, 40-degree helix, variable pitch, and reduced neck configuration.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or CNC setup technicians. Secure the 1/2 inch straight shank in a properly sized collet, end mill holder, or shrink-fit toolholder, ensuring adequate engagement length to prevent pullout under cutting loads. Confirm spindle is fully stopped and machine is in a safe state before loading or changing the tool. Do not exceed the rated reach depth or use the reduced neck section as a bearing surface against the workpiece wall, as this can cause tool deflection or breakage.
