The HELICAL SOLUTIONS 46060 is a 3-flute solid carbide square end mill designed for high-performance aluminum milling. Built with a 40-degree helix angle and variable index (unequal flute spacing), it reduces chatter and improves surface finish at elevated feed rates. The 3/16-inch cutting diameter pairs with a 0.2188-inch length of cut and a 3/4-inch reach length on a reduced neck profile, giving this tool extended reach into pockets and slots without sacrificing rigidity. It is center-cutting and right-hand cut, right-hand flute, making it suitable for both plunge and conventional milling operations. Licensed machinists and CNC operators working with aluminum alloys will find this geometry optimized for chip evacuation and tool life.
This end mill is intended for aluminum milling applications in production and job-shop CNC environments. The reduced neck and extended reach design make it well suited for deep-pocket profiling, slotting, and finishing passes where standard-reach tooling would contact the workpiece shank. The bright uncoated finish is appropriate for aluminum, where coatings such as TiN or AlTiN can cause material adhesion. Both horizontal and vertical machining centers running aluminum structural and aerospace components are typical use cases for this tool series.
Designed for use in CNC machining centers and manual mills with standard ER or straight-shank collet toolholders accepting a 3/16-inch shank. Part of the HELICAL SOLUTIONS End Mills for Aluminum series: 3 Flute, Square, 40-degree Helix, Variable Pitch, Reduced Neck.
Install into a precision collet chuck or end mill holder rated for the shank diameter; avoid set-screw holders that can cause runout and premature tool wear. Confirm collet bore is clean and free of chips before seating the shank. Verify spindle direction is set to right-hand rotation before engaging the cut. Follow machine tool manufacturer torque specifications for collet nut tightening.
