The HELICAL SOLUTIONS 34017 is a solid carbide corner radius end mill designed for high-performance milling in steel, cast iron, stainless steel, non-ferrous metals, superalloys, and titanium. It features a 1/8 inch mill diameter, a 0.01 inch corner radius, and five flutes arranged in a variable pitch (variable index) configuration to reduce harmonic chatter during cut. The Aplus PVD coating provides thermal resistance and extended tool life in ferrous and hard-material applications. At 1.5 inches overall length with a 1/4 inch length of cut, this is a stub-length tool built for rigidity and accuracy in tight-tolerance finishing and roughing operations.
The 34017 is suited for machinists and toolroom professionals running CNC vertical or horizontal machining centers. Its primary application is slotting, profiling, and contouring in steel and cast iron workpieces where a radiused corner is required to reduce stress concentration or meet part geometry requirements. The variable pitch flute spacing helps suppress vibration in interrupted cuts and during aggressive side milling. The centercutting geometry allows plunge entry. This tool is recommended for use with high-precision toolholders to maintain runout within the 0.0005 inch TIR maximum specification.
Designed for use in high-precision toolholders. Primary workpiece materials are steel and cast iron; secondary materials include stainless steel, non-ferrous metals, superalloys, and titanium. Part of the HELICAL SOLUTIONS HEV-5 series of 5-flute variable pitch end mills.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist following standard CNC tooling procedures. Secure the shank in a high-precision collet or shrink-fit toolholder to maintain TIR within specification; excessive runout will accelerate edge wear and compromise corner radius tolerance. Verify machine spindle and toolholder cleanliness before seating the tool. Confirm correct cutting direction (right-hand) and programmed feed and speed parameters before engaging the workpiece.
