The HELICAL SOLUTIONS 04182 is a solid carbide square end mill engineered for aluminum machining applications. It features a 5/16-inch cutting diameter, three helical flutes with a 35-degree helix angle, and a Zplus coating optimized for non-ferrous materials. The reduced neck geometry extends reach to 2.125 inches while maintaining rigidity, making it well suited for deep-pocket and slotting operations where tool deflection must be minimized. Right-hand cutting and right-hand flute direction are standard. The center-cutting capability allows plunge entry without a pre-drilled pilot hole. Licensed machinists and CNC setup technicians are the primary installers of this tool.
This end mill is designed for milling aluminum and other non-ferrous materials in CNC machining centers and manual mills. The 35-degree helix angle promotes chip evacuation in aluminum, reducing built-up edge and heat accumulation at the cutting zone. The reduced neck profile is particularly useful in setups requiring extended reach into deep pockets or stepped features without increasing overall tool length beyond 4 inches. Single-end configuration means the tool is replaced rather than flipped when worn.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or direct selection for CNC and manual milling operations requiring a 5/16-inch diameter, 3-flute, square-profile carbide end mill for aluminum. Part of the HELICAL SOLUTIONS End Mills for Aluminum - 3 Flute - Square - 35 deg Helix - Reduced Neck series.
Install in a clean, properly sized collet or end mill holder to full shank engagement depth before tightening. Power down and lock out the spindle before any tool change. Verify runout with a dial indicator after seating — excessive runout accelerates flute wear and degrades surface finish. Follow the machine manufacturer and tooling guidelines for appropriate speeds, feeds, and cutting fluid application when machining aluminum.
