The HELICAL SOLUTIONS 01197 is a 3-flute, solid carbide square end mill designed for high-performance aluminum cutting applications. The tool measures 0.25 inches in diameter with a 1.25-inch length of cut (LOC), a 3-inch overall length (OAL), and a 0.25-inch straight cylindrical shank. The 35-degree right-hand helix promotes aggressive chip evacuation, which is critical when machining aluminum and other non-ferrous materials. A Zplus coating is applied to reduce built-up edge and improve tool life in aluminum alloys. This end mill is centercutting, allowing plunge entry directly into the workpiece. It is intended for use by machinists and CNC operators in production and job shop environments.
This end mill is part of the HELICAL SOLUTIONS End Mills for Aluminum series, specifically the 3-Flute Square 35-degree Helix line. It is suited for slotting, profiling, and peripheral milling operations in aluminum and soft non-ferrous materials. The 3-flute geometry balances chip clearance with cutting stability, making it appropriate for both roughing and finishing passes in aluminum where chip packing and heat buildup are common concerns. Typical applications include aerospace, automotive, and general fabrication work where aluminum stock is the primary workpiece material.
Designed for use in CNC machining centers and manual milling machines equipped with standard 1/4-inch collet or end mill holder tooling. Part of the HELICAL SOLUTIONS End Mills for Aluminum - 3 Flute - Square - 35 deg Helix series.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC operator. Ensure the spindle is fully stopped and the machine is in a safe, locked-out state before changing tooling. Seat the shank fully into the collet or holder to the recommended minimum engagement depth and torque the retention hardware per the tool holder manufacturer specifications. Verify runout with a dial indicator before commencing a cut, as excessive runout will accelerate tool wear and degrade surface finish.
