The HELI-COIL A1185-7CN656 is a free running wire thread insert designed to create or restore strong, wear-resistant internal threads in tapped holes. Built from 304 stainless steel with a bright, uncoated finish, this tanged insert accepts a 7/16-14 UNC fastener and measures 0.656 inches in overall length, corresponding to a 1-1/2D length-to-diameter ratio. It installs into a properly prepared HeliCoil-tapped hole and provides a durable thread form that resists corrosion, galling, and vibration loosening. Machinists, maintenance technicians, and trade professionals use these inserts when parent material threads are stripped, damaged, or insufficient for the application load.
This insert is suited for thread repair and new-installation applications across industrial, HVAC, mechanical, and general trade environments. The 7/16-14 UNC thread size is common in structural fastening, equipment housings, and service panels. The 1-1/2D length makes it appropriate for moderate-load applications where a full 2D insert is not required. The tanged design simplifies installation with a standard HeliCoil installation tool; the tang is removed after seating using a break-off tool. Sold individually, with a minimum order quantity of 5 units per transaction.
Designed as an OEM-style free running thread insert for use in any parent material tapped to HeliCoil 7/16-14 UNC insert specifications. Compatible with standard HeliCoil installation and tang break-off tooling for this thread size.
Installation requires a HeliCoil tap and installation tool sized for 7/16-14 UNC inserts; the parent hole must be drilled and tapped to the correct insert-tap specification before installation. Power down or de-energize any equipment before performing thread repair on live assemblies. After driving the insert to the correct depth - flush with or one turn below the surface - remove the tang using a break-off tool. Follow applicable workplace safety standards and equipment manufacturer service procedures when performing thread repair in the field.
