The HELI-COIL A1185-2CN328 is a free running wire thread insert designed to restore or reinforce 8-32 UNC threads in tapped holes. Manufactured from 304 stainless steel with a bright, uncoated finish, this tanged insert measures 0.328 inches in overall length and delivers a 2D length-to-diameter ratio. The coiled wire design distributes load evenly across the thread engagement length, making it a reliable choice for aluminum, magnesium, plastics, and other materials prone to thread stripping. Licensed electricians, HVAC technicians, plumbers, and general maintenance professionals install these inserts wherever thread repair or thread strengthening is required in light-gauge or soft-material assemblies.
This insert is suited for applications in residential and commercial equipment maintenance, field repair of stripped fastener holes, and production assembly where base material thread strength is insufficient for the required load. The 8-32 UNC thread size is common in electrical enclosures, control boards, HVAC equipment panels, and small mechanical assemblies. The tanged design is used with a standard HELI-COIL installation tool; the tang is broken off after installation to leave a clean internal thread. Minimum order quantity is 10 inserts.
Designed as an OEM-style thread repair insert for tapped holes requiring an 8-32 UNC internal thread, suitable for use in aluminum, magnesium, thermoplastics, and other materials where base thread strength is a concern.
Installation requires a proper HELI-COIL tap and drive tool sized for the 8-32 thread series; using an undersized or incorrect tap will result in a poor fit. Power down or de-energize any equipment before drilling and tapping near electrical components. After driving the insert to the correct depth, break off the tang using the notch at the bottom of the insert and remove it from the hole before reassembly. Follow applicable equipment manufacturer service procedures and relevant code requirements when performing thread repair on load-bearing or safety-critical fastener locations.
