The HELI-COIL A1185-06CN138 is a free running wire thread insert designed to create a strong, wear-resistant internal thread in a drilled and tapped hole. Built from 304 stainless steel with a bright, uncoated finish, this insert measures 0.138 inches in overall length and is configured for 6-32 UNC thread. The tanged design allows for installation using a standard HELI-COIL installation tool. At a 1D length-to-diameter ratio, this insert suits applications where axial space is limited but thread integrity is critical. Machinists, MRO technicians, and field service professionals install these inserts to restore or reinforce threads in aluminum, magnesium, cast iron, and other base materials.
This insert is appropriate for light-duty fastening applications requiring a fine, reliable 6-32 UNC thread form. Common use cases include electronics enclosures, precision instrument housings, small engine components, and industrial equipment where stripped or damaged threads need restoration. The 304 stainless steel construction provides corrosion resistance suitable for both indoor and outdoor service environments. With 2-3/4 free coils, the insert distributes clamp load evenly across the engaged thread length. Sold as a single insert with a minimum order quantity of 10 units.
Designed as an OEM-style thread repair and thread reinforcement insert for use in tapped holes prepared to HELI-COIL STI (Screw Thread Insert) specifications for 6-32 UNC thread forms.
Thread insert installation requires a properly sized STI tap to prepare the receiving hole before insert placement. Use the correct HELI-COIL installation mandrel for the 6-32 thread size to drive the insert to the specified depth. After installation, remove the drive tang using a tang break-off tool; ensure the tang is fully removed and extracted from blind holes before assembly. Power down or de-energize any equipment before performing thread repair on live components.
