The HELI-COIL A1084-5CN050 is a free running helical wire thread insert designed to create strong, durable internal threads in tapped holes. Manufactured from 304 stainless steel with a bright, uncoated finish, this insert accepts M5 x 0.8 metric coarse threads and measures 5 mm (0.197 inches) in overall length, giving it a 1D length-to-diameter ratio. The tanged design allows for installation with a standard drive tool and features approximately 4-1/8 free coils for reliable thread engagement. Machinists, maintenance technicians, and field mechanics install these inserts to restore stripped threads or reinforce threads in softer parent materials.
This insert is suited for applications requiring corrosion-resistant thread repair or thread reinforcement in metal, composite, or cast components. The M5 x 0.8 metric coarse thread standard makes it appropriate for general industrial, automotive, aerospace ground support, and equipment maintenance work. At 5 mm overall length, it fits shallow bosses and thin-wall sections where thread depth is limited. Installation requires a correctly sized drill, tap, and HELI-COIL compatible installation tool matched to the M5 thread specification.
Designed as an OEM-style free running thread insert for use in any parent material tapped to accept an M5 x 0.8 HELI-COIL compatible insert bore, following metric coarse thread standards.
Installation is typically performed by machinists or maintenance technicians using a drill, insert tap, and manufacturer-matched installation tool sized for M5 thread inserts. The parent material hole must be drilled and tapped to the correct insert-tap diameter before the insert is driven in. After seating the insert flush with or below the parent surface, remove the tang using a tang break-off tool where required by the application. Always verify thread engagement depth meets the load requirements of the fastened joint before returning the assembly to service.
