The HELI-COIL A1084-2CN030 is a tanged, free running wire thread insert designed to create or restore strong, accurate Metric Coarse threads in materials that are too soft or too damaged to hold a standard fastener reliably. Made from 304 stainless steel with a bright, uncoated finish, it installs into a pre-drilled and tapped parent hole to produce a wear-resistant internal thread. The insert measures M2 x 0.4 in thread size with an overall length of 3 mm (0.1181 inches) and a 1-1/2D length-to-diameter ratio, offering a secure thread engagement in a compact footprint. Machinists, maintenance technicians, and MRO professionals install this type of insert in both production and repair applications.
This insert is suited for applications where a small-diameter Metric Coarse thread must be installed in aluminum, cast iron, magnesium, plastic, or other materials prone to thread stripping or pull-out. It is commonly used in precision assembly, equipment repair, and OEM manufacturing where thread integrity under vibration or repeated assembly cycles is required. The tanged design allows installation with a standard HELI-COIL insertion tool; the tang is removed after installation is complete. Minimum order quantity for this part is 5 pieces; each package contains 1 insert.
Designed as an OEM-style free running insert for use in any parent material requiring a restored or reinforced M2 x 0.4 Metric Coarse internal thread. Requires a HELI-COIL-specification STI tap and matching insertion tool for proper installation.
Installation is performed by machinists or maintenance technicians using a HELI-COIL STI tap to prepare the parent hole, followed by an appropriate insertion tool matched to the M2 insert size. Ensure the parent hole is clean and tapped to the correct STI specification before driving the insert. After the insert is seated flush or slightly below the surface, remove the tang using a tang break-off tool or needle-nose pliers. Do not attempt to drive the insert without the proper insertion tool, as this can damage the coil geometry and compromise thread accuracy.
