The HARVEY TOOL 988124 is a solid carbide drill mill designed to perform both drilling and milling operations in a single tool. With a 3/8 inch diameter, a 120-degree point angle, and 4 flutes, this tool transitions cleanly between axial drilling and peripheral milling without a tool change. The 7/8 inch length of cut and 2-1/2 inch overall length make it well-suited for compact work envelopes on vertical machining centers and CNC mills. The bright uncoated finish is appropriate for a wide range of base materials. Machinists and toolroom technicians working with ferrous and non-ferrous metals rely on this geometry for combination drill-mill operations in production and prototype environments.
This drill mill fits standard CNC machining center spindles accepting a 3/8 inch shank. It is used in applications where spot drilling, through drilling, and face or contour milling need to occur in the same operation or when setup time between operations must be minimized. Typical use cases include fixture work, prototype machining, and production runs where multi-step features are machined in a single pass. The 4-flute configuration supports efficient chip evacuation and surface finish in both plunge and interpolation moves.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement and standard tooling option for CNC machining centers and manual mills accepting a 3/8 inch straight shank end mill holder or ER collet system.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC toolroom technician. Ensure the spindle is fully stopped and the machine is placed in an e-stop or lockout state before loading or unloading the tool. Seat the shank fully into the collet or holder to the recommended insertion depth before torquing the retention nut. Verify runout with a dial indicator before beginning a production cut to avoid premature edge wear or workpiece damage.
