The HARVEY TOOL 987720-C3 is a solid carbide Woodruff keyseat cutter designed for milling keyseat slots in shafts and bores. It features a 0.5-inch cut diameter, a 0.047-inch cut width, and an AlTiN coating that extends tool life in ferrous and hard materials. The straight-tooth configuration delivers clean, accurate slot geometry. With an overall length of 3 inches and a 0.5-inch shank diameter, it mounts directly in standard end mill holders or collet chucks. This cutter is sized for precision work and is typically installed by machinists and tool-and-die professionals running CNC or manual mills.
This cutter is suited for keyseat operations in steel, stainless steel, cast iron, non-ferrous metals, superalloys, titanium, and hard materials. The AlTiN finish makes it a practical choice for high-heat applications where HSS tooling would wear prematurely. The 0.25-inch neck diameter and 0.75-inch neck length provide clearance for reach into deeper slot locations without sacrificing rigidity. Typical applications include shaft keyway milling in mechanical assemblies, power transmission components, and precision machined parts where tight dimensional tolerances are required.
Designed for use in standard 1/2-inch shank end mill holders or collet chucks on CNC machining centers and manual knee mills. Primary workpiece materials include steel, stainless steel, and cast iron; secondary workpiece materials include non-ferrous metals, superalloys, titanium, and hard materials.
Installation is performed by machinists using standard toolholding equipment rated for the 0.5-inch shank diameter. Secure the shank fully in the holder to the recommended gauge-line depth before cutting. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and the machine is powered down before changing or inspecting the cutter. Carbide tooling is brittle — avoid impact loading or dropping, and confirm feed and speed parameters are appropriate for the workpiece material before engaging the cut.
