The HARVEY TOOL 987128-C3 is a solid carbide helical flute thread mill designed for cutting internal 8-32 threads. It carries a 3/16 inch (0.1875 inch) shank diameter and a 0.1310 inch cutting diameter, with a length of cut of 0.4070 inches. The three-flute geometry improves chip evacuation and surface finish during thread milling operations. An AlTiN coating provides heat resistance and extended tool life in ferrous and hard materials. This tool is intended for use by machinists and tool-and-die professionals working on CNC machining centers performing internal thread operations in production or prototype environments.
This thread mill is suited for internal thread milling applications requiring 8-32 UNC thread forms in materials where the AlTiN coating provides a performance advantage, including alloy steels, stainless steels, and cast iron. The helical flute design allows the tool to be used in a helical interpolation toolpath on CNC machines capable of simultaneous three-axis motion. With a 2.5 inch overall length, it provides adequate reach for standard depth applications while maintaining rigidity in the shank. No coolant-through capability is present, so flood or mist coolant delivery at the spindle is the appropriate approach for heat management.
Designed for use in CNC machining centers capable of helical interpolation for cutting internal 8-32 UNC threads. Minimum nominal hole diameter of 0.1640 inches is required for proper tool engagement.
Thread mills require a CNC machine programmed for helical interpolation — confirm the control supports simultaneous three-axis circular interpolation before use. Secure the 3/16 inch shank in an appropriately sized collet or end mill holder and verify runout before cutting. Always confirm spindle speed and feed rate are set per the manufacturer recommendation for the workpiece material before engaging the cut. Power down and lock out the spindle before tool changes or adjustments.
