The HARVEY TOOL 987100-C3 is a solid carbide helical flute thread mill designed for cutting internal UN threads in a CNC machining environment. Built for 5/8-11 thread forms, this long-reach tool carries four helical flutes and an AlTiN coating that extends tool life in ferrous and high-temperature alloy materials. The 0.4900-inch cutting diameter fits within the minor diameter of the target thread, while the 1.8200-inch length of cut gives the tool sufficient reach for deep or blind-hole applications. Machinists programming thread milling cycles will find the geometry consistent with single-pass and multi-pass helical interpolation routines.
This thread mill is suited for production and job-shop environments requiring precise internal UN thread forms in steel, stainless steel, cast iron, and similar materials. The long-flute configuration allows it to address thread depths that shorter thread mills cannot reach without tool changes. It is a direct fit for shops running CNC machining centers where helical interpolation is available. Installation and operation require a rigid spindle, a matching collet or tool holder accepting a 0.5000-inch shank, and correct G-code programming for thread milling cycles.
Designed for use in CNC machining centers capable of helical interpolation, accepting a 0.5000-inch round shank in a standard collet or end mill holder. Cuts 5/8-11 UN internal threads per the Multi-Form Long Flute UN Thread series geometry.
A licensed machinist or CNC programmer should verify the helical interpolation parameters and thread mill cycle before cutting production parts. Confirm the tool holder is properly torqued and the shank is fully seated before spindle engagement. No coolant-through passages are present — direct external coolant or air blast at the cutting zone to manage chip load and heat. Inspect the cutting edges for wear or chipping between uses, as carbide thread mills are sensitive to improper feeds, speeds, or re-entry into an interrupted cut.
