The HARVEY TOOL 984520-C3 is a Woodruff keyseat cutter designed for milling keyseat slots in shafts and bores to accept Woodruff keys. Built from brazed solid carbide and finished with an AlTiN coating, it delivers heat resistance and extended tool life in demanding cutting applications. The cutter measures 0.75 inches in cut diameter with a 0.062 inch cut width and mounts on a 3/8 inch shank with a Weldon flat for secure tool holding. With 10 straight teeth and a 3.0625 inch overall length, this cutter is well suited for precision keyseat work in steel, stainless, and hardened materials. It is typically installed and run by machinists and tool and die professionals on manual mills or CNC machining centers.
This keyseat cutter is used in general machining, maintenance, and repair operations where Woodruff keyseats must be cut in shafts, spindles, or other rotating components. The straight tooth configuration provides clean, accurate cuts in a variety of workpiece materials. The AlTiN finish improves performance in high-temperature cutting environments, making it suitable for production and job shop use alike. The Weldon flat shank ensures positive engagement with standard end mill holders, reducing pullout risk during interrupted cuts.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or standard tooling selection for use in any manual or CNC milling machine equipped with a 3/8 inch end mill holder or collet accepting a Weldon flat shank.
Installation is performed by a qualified machinist. Secure the shank fully into a compatible end mill holder, aligning the Weldon flat with the set screw for positive engagement before tightening. Confirm workpiece is properly fixtured and machine spindle speed and feed rate are set per the material being cut. Never exceed the cutter rated capacity and inspect the brazed joint and cutting edges for wear or damage before each use.
