The HARVEY TOOL 970178-C3 is a solid carbide corner radius end mill designed for precision milling in demanding metalworking applications. Built with a 0.078 inch mill diameter, a 0.5 mm (0.020 inch) corner radius, and three flutes, this tool balances material removal with surface finish quality in a single pass. The extended reach design pairs a 0.625 inch reach length with a stub flute configuration, placing the cutting geometry farther from the shank while keeping deflection manageable. An AlTiN (aluminum titanium nitride) PVD coating increases heat resistance and tool life when cutting ferrous and hard materials. Licensed machinists and CNC operators install this tool using standard toolholders.
This end mill is suited for milling steel, stainless steel, cast iron, non-ferrous metals, and composite materials. The long-reach, stub-flute geometry is commonly chosen for reaching into pockets, shoulders, and recessed features where standard-reach tools cannot access the workpiece. Right-hand cut and right-hand spiral flute direction are standard for conventional CNC milling setups. It handles both roughing and finishing operations, making it useful for shops that want to reduce tool changes in small-part programs. The single-end configuration is typical for this diameter class.
Designed for use with standard straight-bore toolholders accepting a 0.125 inch (1/8 inch) shank diameter. Compatible primary workpiece materials include steel, stainless steel, cast iron, non-ferrous metals, and composites.
Installation is performed by a machinist or CNC operator with the spindle fully stopped and the machine in a safe, locked-out state before tool changes. Seat the 0.125 inch straight-cylindrical shank fully into the toolholder bore and torque the retention mechanism to the toolholder manufacturer specification. Verify runout at the cutting diameter before running the first part. Do not exceed the tool's rated reach length as a cantilevered overhang beyond the stub flute zone increases deflection and the risk of tool breakage at this diameter class.
