The HARVEY TOOL 959510-C6 is a single profile thread mill designed to cut both internal and external threads in the 4-40 to 4-48 range, covering 40 to 48 threads per inch (TPI). The tool is ground from solid carbide and finished with an AlTiN Nano coating for improved hardness and heat resistance at the cutting edge. With a cutting diameter of 0.08 inches and a 3-flute geometry, it is suited for threading small-diameter features where tap breakage is a common concern. Machinists and toolroom operators use this mill on CNC machining centers when they need a single tool to cover multiple thread pitches in one setup.
This thread mill is applied in precision machining environments where fine-pitch, small-diameter threads are required. The 4-40 and 4-48 thread sizes appear frequently in instrument components, electronics hardware, optical assemblies, and miniature mechanical assemblies. Because the tool handles both internal and external thread forms, one SKU covers a range of operations on the same part or across a small-batch job. The 0.1875-inch shank diameter and 2-inch overall length make it compatible with standard collet chucks and end mill holders used on vertical and horizontal machining centers.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement and standard production thread mill for CNC machining centers capable of helical interpolation in the 4-40 to 4-48 thread size range.
Thread milling requires a CNC control with helical interpolation capability; confirm the machine control supports the required G-code cycles before setup. Seat the 0.1875-inch shank fully in a clean, properly sized collet or end mill holder and torque the retention hardware to the toolholder manufacturer specification. Inspect the cutting edge and AlTiN Nano coating for chips or wear before each use, as carbide tools of this diameter are sensitive to runout. Follow your shop standard for speeds, feeds, and coolant strategy for solid carbide thread mills in the target workpiece material.
