The HARVEY TOOL 72840 is a solid carbide corner radius end mill designed for precision milling in steel, stainless steel, cast iron, non-ferrous metals, aluminum, wood, and composite materials. It features a 3/8 inch cutting diameter, a 0.0400 inch corner radius, and a 4-flute spiral geometry with right-hand cutting direction. The 1 inch length of cut and 2.5 inch overall length place it in the miniature stub and standard end mill series, making it well suited for tight-tolerance finishing and light roughing passes. Bright uncoated carbide substrate maintains edge sharpness across a wide range of workpiece materials. Licensed machinists and CNC tooling setters are the primary users of this tool.
This end mill fits residential and commercial machine shop environments running CNC vertical mills, machining centers, and manual knee mills with appropriate toolholders. The 3/8 inch straight cylindrical shank is compatible with standard ER collet chucks and end mill holders. Its centercutting capability allows direct plunge entry into workpieces. The corner radius geometry reduces stress concentration at the cutting edge, which extends tool life on steel and stainless steel compared to a sharp-corner end mill. Normal pitch fluting supports chip evacuation on both roughing and finishing passes.
Designed for use with standard toolholders accepting a 3/8 inch straight cylindrical shank, including ER collet systems and end mill holders common to CNC machining centers and manual mills.
Installation and tool changes must be performed with the machine spindle fully stopped and locked out per shop safety procedures. Seat the shank fully into the collet or holder and torque the retention nut to the toolholder manufacturer specification before running. Inspect the corner radius and cutting edges for chips or damage before each use. This tool is intended for use by trained machinists familiar with feeds, speeds, and depth-of-cut parameters appropriate to carbide end mills.
