The HARVEY TOOL 71040-C3 is a solid carbide helical flute thread mill designed for cutting both internal and external UN threads in the 10-24 and 10-56 thread size range. With a 0.1350-inch cutting diameter, a 0.2500-inch shank diameter, and a 0.0700-inch neck diameter, this tool is built for threading smaller bores and fine-pitch applications where rigidity and precision matter. The 4-flute helical geometry promotes smooth chip evacuation and stable cutting action. An AlTiN coating improves heat resistance and extends tool life in abrasive workpiece materials. Machinists and CNC operators install this tool in machining centers for single-pass or interpolated thread milling operations.
This thread mill is suited for precision machining environments including tool-and-die shops, aerospace component manufacturing, and general-purpose CNC machining. It handles both internal thread milling in bores and external thread milling on bosses within the UN thread standard, covering a range from 24 TPI down to 56 TPI. The 2.5-inch overall length provides adequate reach for typical production setups without sacrificing tool stiffness. No coolant-through capability is present, so flood or mist coolant delivery at the spindle is the standard approach for this tool.
Designed for use in CNC machining centers with ER or straight-shank collet toolholders accepting a 0.2500-inch shank diameter, for UN thread milling applications from 10-24 to 10-56 thread sizes.
Thread mills are installed by qualified machinists or CNC programmers using appropriate collet toolholders torqued to toolholder manufacturer specifications. Verify runout at the spindle before threading operations, as excessive runout will produce out-of-tolerance thread forms. Program helical interpolation moves according to the thread pitch and direction; consult HARVEY TOOL cutting data for recommended speeds, feeds, and interpolation radii. Secure the workpiece firmly and confirm the correct thread direction before initiating the cut.
