The HARVEY TOOL 70054-C3 is a solid carbide helical flute thread mill designed to cut 5/16-18 unified coarse threads in both internal and external applications. With a 0.2350-inch cutting diameter, a 1/4-inch (0.2500-inch) shank diameter, and three flutes, this tool delivers precise thread geometry in a single helical interpolation pass. The AlTiN coating improves heat resistance and extends tool life in ferrous and hardened materials. A 5/8-inch length of cut accommodates standard thread engagement depths, while the 2-1/2-inch overall length provides clearance for most CNC machining center setups. Machinists and tooling specialists working in precision manufacturing install and operate this tool.
This thread mill is suited for CNC machining centers performing 5/16-18 threading operations where a single tool must handle both internal and external thread profiles. The helical flute design supports chip evacuation during the interpolation cycle, making it appropriate for through-hole and blind-hole work in steel, stainless, cast iron, and similar materials. With a minimum nominal diameter of 5/16 inch, it targets standard fastener thread sizes common in aerospace, automotive, and general precision machining environments. Coolant-through is not supported on this tool, so flood or mist coolant delivery at the spindle should be used when cutting heat-sensitive materials.
Designed for use in CNC machining centers capable of helical interpolation; compatible with 1/4-inch tool holders, collets, or end mill chucks conforming to standard shank tolerances for 0.2500-inch diameter tooling.
Installation and operation should be performed by a qualified machinist familiar with CNC thread milling cycles. Ensure the spindle and tool holder are clean and within tolerance before seating the 1/4-inch shank. Power down and lock out the machine before changing or inspecting the tool. Program helical interpolation in accordance with the tool manufacturer's recommended feed, speed, and stepover parameters for the workpiece material; do not use this tool in a single-point or tapping cycle.
