The HARVEY TOOL 39312-C6 is a solid carbide ball end mill designed for high-performance milling in medium alloy steels, hard materials, stainless steel, and cast iron. It carries a 3/16 inch (0.1870 inch decimal) cutting diameter, a 2-flute right-hand spiral configuration, and a 35-degree high helix angle. The tapered reach geometry and 1.072 inch neck length provide extended access into deep cavities and tight mold pockets. An AlTiN Nano PVD coating delivers elevated heat resistance and surface hardness, supporting both roughing and finishing passes in demanding materials. Licensed machinists, mold makers, and precision CNC operators are the primary users of this tool.
This end mill is positioned for medium alloy steel and hard material applications as its primary workpiece targets, with stainless steel and cast iron as secondary materials. The tapered reach profile makes it well suited for mold and die cavity work where clearance is restricted. The 3/8 inch straight-cylindrical shank fits standard ER and end mill holders. Single-end configuration means the tool is indexed once and discarded at end of life rather than reversed. Coolant-through is not supported on this tool; flood or mist coolant delivered externally at the cut zone is the recommended approach for heat management.
Designed for use in CNC machining centers with standard straight-cylindrical 3/8 inch end mill or collet holders. Primary workpiece materials are steel and hard material (ISO P and H classifications); secondary materials include stainless steel and cast iron (ISO M and K). Part of the Harvey Tool High Helix End Mills for Medium Alloy Steels series, Ball Tapered Reach (Mold Cutters) family.
Installation and operation should be performed by qualified CNC machinists or tooling specialists. Ensure the spindle is fully stopped and the machine is in a safe state before loading or removing the tool. Seat the 3/8 inch shank fully into the tool holder and torque the retention mechanism to the holder manufacturer's specification. Verify runout at the tool tip before beginning a cut, as excessive runout accelerates edge wear and degrades surface finish on finish passes.
