The H R MANUFACTURING HR-478-A is a soft lathe chuck jaw with a tongue and groove interface, designed for use in metal-turning and machining applications. Machined from 6061 aluminum, this jaw delivers the machinability and light weight that toolmakers and CNC lathe operators need when boring soft jaws to a custom grip diameter. The jaw measures 4.875 inches overall length and 1.75 inches overall width, with a slot width of 0.75 inches and a groove width of 0.5 inches. The 2.5-inch distance between mount hole centers provides consistent, repeatable positioning in the chuck body.
This jaw is intended for use on lathes fitted with a 12-inch chuck. The tongue and groove interface is a common standard in production and job-shop environments, allowing fast changeover between jaw sets without elaborate setup. Machinists, toolroom technicians, and CNC lathe operators will typically bore these jaws to match the workpiece diameter before clamping. The square jaw shape suits a wide range of round and prismatic workholding tasks on manual and CNC turning centers.
Designed to fit 12-inch lathe chucks with a tongue and groove jaw interface. Minimum and maximum compatible chuck diameter is 12.0 inches.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or toolroom technician with the lathe powered down and locked out per applicable lockout/tagout procedures. Verify that the tongue and groove interface is fully seated and that all mounting hardware is secured before operating the chuck. Soft jaws should be bored to the final grip diameter while mounted in the chuck to ensure concentricity. Inspect jaw seating and hardware torque after initial use.
