The H R MANUFACTURING HR-466-P is a soft lathe chuck jaw designed for tongue and groove chuck interfaces on 12-inch lathe chucks. Machined from 1018 steel, this square-profile jaw measures 5.75 inches overall length and 1.75 inches overall width, with mount hole centers spaced 2.5 inches apart. Soft jaws are intended to be bored or machined to match specific workpiece geometry, allowing precise, repeatable gripping without marring finished surfaces. Machinists and tool room operators install these jaws when holding non-standard or finish-machined parts that require a custom grip surface.
This jaw fits 12-inch lathe chucks using a tongue and groove interface. It is suited for manual and CNC turning applications in production, job shop, and maintenance environments. The 1018 steel construction provides enough hardness for repeated re-boring cycles while remaining easy to machine with standard HSS or carbide tooling. Typical use cases include holding turned parts, castings, and bar stock that require a dedicated soft jaw setup for accurate repositioning.
Designed for use with 12-inch lathe chucks using a tongue and groove jaw interface. Both minimum and maximum compatible chuck diameter is 12 inches, making this jaw specific to that chuck size.
Soft chuck jaws are installed and bored by a machinist or tool room technician. Power down the lathe and confirm the spindle is fully stopped before removing or installing chuck jaws. Use proper chuck jaw mounting hardware and verify all jaw bolts are torqued to the chuck manufacturer specification before operation. After boring, inspect jaw seating and runout with a dial indicator before cutting workpieces.
