The H R MANUFACTURING HR-149-1.5-A is a serrated soft lathe chuck jaw machined from 6061 aluminum. Soft jaws are designed to be bored or machined by the operator to match a specific workpiece, providing a custom grip without damaging finished surfaces. This jaw measures 1.5 inches overall width and 3.5 inches overall length, with mount hole centers spaced 1.0 inch apart. It is sold as a single jaw and is compatible with 8-inch diameter lathe chucks. Machinists and toolroom operators rely on soft jaws for holding irregular, thin-walled, or finish-critical workpieces where standard hard jaws would cause surface damage or distortion.
This jaw fits 3-jaw chuck configurations on manual and CNC lathes equipped with an 8-inch chuck. The serrated interface engages the chuck's master jaw serrations to maintain positive registration and repeatable positioning after removal and reinstallation. The 0.551-inch groove width and 12 mm fastener size are consistent with standard master jaw geometry for this chuck diameter. Typical applications include production turning, second-operation work, and prototype runs where custom bore-to-fit holding is required.
Designed for use with 8-inch diameter lathe chucks requiring a serrated-interface soft jaw with a 0.551-inch groove width, 1.0-inch mount hole center spacing, and 12 mm fastener size. Sold as a single jaw; a complete 3-jaw set requires three pieces.
Installation is performed by a machinist or toolroom professional. Before mounting or boring soft jaws, ensure the lathe is powered off and locked out per applicable machine safety procedures. Seat the jaws fully against the master jaw serrations and torque fasteners evenly before boring to final dimension. Bore the jaws while chucked on the machine that will use them to maintain concentricity and maximize holding accuracy.
