The H R MANUFACTURING HR-108-2.5 is a serrated soft lathe chuck jaw designed for use in manual and CNC lathe setups requiring custom bore or gripping profile work. Soft jaws are machined by the operator to match a specific workpiece, making them a go-to solution for precision holding of irregular, delicate, or finished parts. This jaw is manufactured from 1018 steel, a low-carbon grade well suited for easy re-boring without excessive tool wear. It measures 5.25 inches overall length and 2 inches overall width, with mount hole centers spaced 1.181 inches apart. The serrated interface locks the jaw firmly into the chuck body and resists shifting under cutting loads.
This soft jaw is sized for 3-jaw lathe chucks with a 12-inch chuck diameter. It is appropriate for job shop, toolroom, and production lathe operations where workholding flexibility is needed across multiple part families. Machinists bore these jaws in place to achieve a true, concentric grip - a standard practice when holding thin-walled parts, pre-machined surfaces, or non-round stock that standard hardened jaws cannot hold without marking or distortion.
Designed for use with 3-jaw lathe chucks having a 12-inch chuck diameter and a serrated jaw interface. Verify groove width (0.710 inches), mount hole center spacing (1.181 inches), and fastener size (14 mm) against your chuck specification before ordering.
Installation and boring of soft lathe chuck jaws should be performed by a qualified machinist familiar with workholding setup procedures. Power down and lockout the lathe before removing or installing chuck jaws. Bore the jaws in position on the chuck under a light preload to ensure concentricity before taking a finish bore pass. Confirm jaw seating and fastener torque according to the chuck manufacturer's specifications before operating the lathe.
