The GWS 317331 is a solid carbide corner radius end mill engineered for high-demand material removal and finishing operations in superalloys, titanium, and stainless steel. It features an 8-flute, right-hand helical geometry with a super close pitch and a 0.03 inch corner radius, reducing stress concentration at the cutting edge and extending tool life in tough materials. The AlCromax (FX3) coating provides thermal and oxidation resistance at elevated cutting temperatures. With a 1/2 inch diameter, 5/8 inch length of cut, and 4 inch overall length, this tool is suited for machining centers and CNC mills running high-performance alloys.
This end mill is designed for finishing passes on superalloys and titanium components as well as secondary use in stainless steel applications. Its extended reach of 2-1/8 inches makes it applicable in deep-pocket or shoulder milling scenarios where standard-reach tooling cannot access the workpiece. The straight-cylindrical shank with h6 tolerance mounts securely in end mill holders and collet chucks used in precision CNC machining environments. Machinists and tooling specialists in aerospace, medical device, and industrial manufacturing will encounter this tool most frequently.
Designed for use with end mill holders accepting a 1/2 inch straight-cylindrical shank with h6 shank diameter tolerance. Primarily suited for machining superalloys and titanium (ISO material code S); secondary application in stainless steel (ISO material code M).
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or CNC tooling setup personnel. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and locked out before loading or unloading the tool. Mount the shank fully into the end mill holder to the recommended gauge line and torque the holder per the holder manufacturer specifications. Confirm runout with a dial indicator before commencing cuts, as excessive runout will accelerate wear on this multi-flute finishing tool.
