The GWS 315546 is a single-end corner radius end mill designed for material removal in non-ferrous metal applications. Built from submicron-grade solid carbide, it features a 1/2 inch cutting diameter and a 0.12 inch corner radius that reduces stress concentrations at the tool corner and extends edge life during roughing passes. The ZrN (zirconium nitride) coating provides low friction and heat resistance suited to aluminum, brass, copper, and similar non-ferrous workpiece materials. Three right-hand helical flutes with a coarse pitch and high helix angle promote chip evacuation during aggressive cuts. A centercutting design allows plunge entry into the workpiece. This tool is installed and operated by machinists, CNC operators, and tool and die professionals.
The GWS 315546 is used in milling operations on non-ferrous metals, including aluminum alloys, brass, and copper, in both CNC machining centers and manual mills. The extended-reach configuration, with a 2-3/8 inch reach length, allows access to deep pockets and stepped features without tool holder interference. The short flute length and straight cylindrical shank with h6 tolerance provide rigid, accurate fitment in standard end mill holders. This tool is suited to production and job-shop environments where high-volume material removal on non-ferrous parts is required.
Designed for use with standard end mill holders. Primary workpiece material is non-ferrous metal (material code N), including aluminum, brass, and copper alloys. Straight cylindrical shank with h6 tolerance is compatible with collet chucks and shrink-fit holders sized for 1/2 inch shanks.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC operator following shop safety protocols. Secure the shank to the full recommended engagement depth in the end mill holder and verify runout before cutting. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before changing or inspecting the tool. Do not use this tool on ferrous or hardened materials, as the ZrN coating and submicron carbide grade are optimized for non-ferrous applications only.
