The GWS 315502 is a solid carbide square end mill designed for precision milling in demanding metalworking and machining applications. Built on the Series 2032 platform, it features a 0.5-inch mill diameter, a 5/8-inch length of cut, and a 37-degree helix angle with a ZrN (zirconium nitride) coating that extends tool life and reduces friction at the cutting edge. The submicron carbide grade provides hardness and wear resistance suited to high-feed operations. Single-end geometry keeps the tool compact while the right-hand cutting and right-hand flute direction make it compatible with standard CNC and manual mill spindle configurations. Machinists and tool-and-die professionals are the primary users of this end mill.
This end mill is well suited to slotting, profiling, and peripheral milling in ferrous and non-ferrous materials where surface finish and dimensional accuracy are critical. The three-flute configuration balances chip evacuation with rigidity, making it a practical choice for general-purpose roughing and finishing passes on machining centers and knee mills. The extended reach design, with a 1-3/8-inch reach length, provides clearance in deep-pocket and shoulder milling scenarios without requiring a longer overall tool assembly.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or direct-fit tooling option for standard 1/2-inch collets, end mill holders, and tooling systems used in CNC machining centers and conventional milling machines.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or CNC setup technicians. Secure the shank fully in a clean, properly sized collet or end mill holder and torque the retention mechanism per the toolholder manufacturer specifications. Inspect the collet bore and shank for chips or contamination before seating the tool. Never exceed the tool's rated speed and feed parameters, and confirm spindle runout is within acceptable limits before beginning a cut.
