The GWS 313888 is a solid carbide corner radius end mill designed for precision milling of non-ferrous metals. It features a 5/16 inch (0.3125 inch) cutting diameter with a 0.0150 inch corner radius, delivering controlled edge geometry that reduces chipping and extends tool life in aluminum, brass, and similar materials. The 2-flute configuration and coarse pitch promote efficient chip evacuation, making this tool well-suited for slotting, profiling, and pocketing operations. An NF1 coating provides additional surface hardness and lubricity tailored specifically for non-ferrous applications. Licensed machinists and CNC programmers working in job shops, production environments, and aerospace fabrication facilities are the primary users of this tool.
This end mill is intended for use in non-ferrous metal machining operations where corner radius geometry is required to reduce stress concentrations and improve surface finish at the bottom of milled features. The extended reach design, with a 2.125 inch reach length, accommodates deeper cavities and step-down cuts where standard-reach tooling cannot access the workpiece geometry. It is a single-end, centercutting tool, meaning it can plunge directly into the material when required. The 45-degree high helix angle promotes smooth cutting action and reduces heat buildup in the cut zone. It is compatible with standard end mill toolholders.
Designed for use with standard end mill toolholders. Primary workpiece material is non-ferrous metal. Series 2012 geometry is engineered for roughing material removal in non-ferrous applications.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC setup technician. Ensure the spindle is fully stopped and the machine is in a safe, locked-out state before changing tooling. Seat the 5/16 inch straight-cylindrical shank fully into the toolholder and torque the retention mechanism according to the toolholder manufacturer specifications. Verify runout with a dial indicator before beginning a production run, as excessive runout will accelerate wear on a small-diameter carbide tool.
