The GWS 312220 is a solid carbide corner radius end mill designed for high-performance material removal in demanding machining applications. It features a 0.5-inch diameter, a 0.03-inch corner radius, and five helical flutes with a variable helix and variable index geometry. The variable helix reduces harmonic vibration during cutting, supporting stable performance at aggressive feed rates. With an FX3 coating and submicron carbide grade, this end mill handles both roughing and finishing operations in a single tool. It is center-cutting and configured as a single-end, right-hand cutting tool. Machinists and CNC programmers working in job shop, production, and aerospace environments will find this tool suited to tight-tolerance work in hard materials.
The GWS 312220 is intended for use in steel, stainless steel, superalloys, titanium, and cast iron. Its short flute length and extended reach configuration make it practical for pocketing, slotting, contouring, and profiling operations where tool deflection must be minimized. The 0.03-inch corner radius reduces stress concentration at the cutting edge, extending tool life compared to sharp-corner end mills in the same material class. This tool mounts in standard end mill holders and is compatible with collet and hydraulic chuck systems designed for straight-cylindrical shanks with an h6 shank diameter tolerance.
Designed for use with end mill holders accepting a 0.5-inch straight-cylindrical shank with h6 tolerance. Primary workpiece materials are steel, stainless steel, superalloys, and titanium. Secondary workpiece material is cast iron. Part of the GWS Series 2213.
Installation is performed by machinists or CNC setup technicians using a standard end mill holder or collet chuck rated for the 0.5-inch shank diameter. Confirm runout at the tool holder before cutting; excessive runout accelerates edge wear on variable-helix tools. Power down and lock out the spindle before tool changes. Do not exceed the tool's rated depth of cut for the workpiece material being machined.
