The GWS 311705 is a solid carbide corner radius end mill designed for high-performance material removal in demanding machining applications. Built to a 5/8 inch diameter with a 0.12 inch corner radius, this single-end, center-cutting tool delivers both roughing and finishing capability in a single pass. The 5-flute geometry paired with variable helix and variable index angles reduces harmonic vibration and improves surface finish at elevated feed rates. Overall length is 3 inches with a 3/4 inch length of cut. The straight cylindrical shank measures 5/8 inch diameter with an h6 tolerance, making it compatible with standard end mill toolholders. Machining professionals and CNC operators use this tool in production and job shop environments.
The 311705 is engineered for cutting steel, stainless steel, superalloys, and titanium as its primary workpiece materials, with cast iron listed as a secondary application. The short flute length and rigid submicron carbide grade make it well-suited for high-speed, high-feed strategies where tool deflection must be minimized. Its center-cutting design allows plunge entry, adding flexibility in pocket milling and slotting operations. Right-hand flute direction and right-hand cutting rotation are standard. This tool is used in CNC vertical and horizontal machining centers.
Designed for use with standard end mill toolholders. Primary workpiece materials are steel, stainless steel, superalloys, and titanium. Cast iron is a listed secondary workpiece material.
Installation and tool changes must be performed with the machine spindle fully stopped and locked out per facility lockout/tagout procedures. Seat the shank fully into the toolholder and torque the retention mechanism to the toolholder manufacturer's specification. Inspect the cutting edges and corner radius for chips or damage before mounting. Confirm runout with a dial indicator before beginning the first cut to avoid premature edge failure.
