The GWS 311699 is a solid carbide corner radius end mill designed for demanding metal removal in steel, stainless steel, superalloys, and titanium. It features a 5/8 inch cutting diameter, a 0.06 inch corner radius, and five flutes arranged in a variable helix, variable index geometry that reduces chatter and improves surface finish. The 3/4 inch length of cut and short-length body make it well suited to rigid setups where tool deflection must be minimized. Built from submicron-grade carbide, it handles both roughing and finishing passes in a single tool. Licensed machinists and CNC operators working in job shops, aerospace, and heavy fabrication environments are the primary users.
This end mill is intended for use in steel and stainless steel components, superalloys, titanium, and cast iron workpieces. It is a single-end, centercutting design, meaning it can plunge directly into the workpiece as well as perform conventional side milling. The straight cylindrical shank with h6 tolerance fits standard end mill holders and collet chucks. Series 2205 designation identifies the product family within the GWS lineup. Typical applications include finishing contoured pockets, profiling hardened steel dies, and side milling tight-tolerance features where corner edge integrity is critical.
Designed for use with standard end mill holders and collet chucks accepting a 5/8 inch straight cylindrical shank with h6 tolerance. Primary workpiece materials are steel, stainless steel, superalloys, and titanium; secondary workpiece material is cast iron.
Install into a clean, undamaged end mill holder or collet chuck rated for the shank diameter before mounting in the spindle. Confirm runout with a dial indicator before beginning a cut, as excessive runout accelerates edge wear on carbide tooling. Follow the machine tool manufacturer torque specifications for drawbar or set-screw retention. Inspect the corner radius and flute edges for chipping after each production run, particularly when cutting superalloys or hardened steel.
