The GWS 311683 is a solid carbide corner radius end mill designed for high-performance material removal in demanding machining environments. Built to handle both roughing and finishing operations in a single tool, it features a 1/2 inch diameter, a 2 inch length of cut, and a 0.09 inch corner radius that reduces stress concentration at the cutting edge. The 5-flute, variable helix and variable index geometry suppresses chatter and promotes smooth chip evacuation. At 4 inches overall length with a 1/2 inch straight-cylindrical shank held to h6 tolerance, this tool seats precisely in standard end mill holders and delivers consistent results across production runs.
This end mill is suited for machining steel, stainless steel, superalloys, titanium, and cast iron in milling operations that require both aggressive material removal rates and controlled surface finish. The long-reach geometry and centercutting capability make it effective for slotting, profiling, and plunge entry without a starter hole. It is intended for use by machinists and toolroom professionals operating CNC mills or manual knee mills equipped with compatible end mill holders.
Designed for use with standard end mill holders. Primary workpiece materials include steel, stainless steel, superalloys, and titanium (material codes P, M, S). Secondary workpiece material is cast iron (material code K). Part of the GWS Series 2205 long-length corner radius end mill line.
Installation is performed by a qualified machinist following shop standard tool-change procedures. Ensure the spindle is fully stopped and the machine is in a safe state before changing tooling. Seat the shank fully into the end mill holder and torque the set screw or collet to the holder manufacturer specification. Confirm runout with a dial indicator before beginning a cut, particularly when machining superalloys or stainless where tool deflection directly affects surface quality.
