The GWS 311654 is a solid carbide corner radius end mill designed for high-performance material removal in demanding machining applications. Built to a 0.5-inch diameter with a 0.02-inch corner radius, it delivers the edge protection needed to reduce chipping and extend tool life when cutting ferrous and exotic materials. The 5-flute geometry paired with a variable helix and variable index design minimizes harmonic vibration, improving surface finish and process stability. With a submicron carbide grade and FX3 coating, this tool handles both roughing and finishing operations in a single setup. It is intended for use by machinists and CNC operators working in job shop, aerospace, and general manufacturing environments.
This end mill is suited for cutting steel, stainless steel, superalloys, titanium, and cast iron. The long-reach geometry, with a 1.625-inch length of cut and 4-inch overall length, makes it well-suited for deep-pocket milling, side-wall finishing, and profiling operations where reach beyond standard tooling is required. The single-end, center-cutting configuration allows plunge entry and full peripheral engagement. It mounts in standard end mill holders using a straight cylindrical shank ground to h6 tolerance for consistent runout in collet and hydraulic chuck setups.
Designed for use with standard end mill holders accepting a 0.5-inch straight-cylindrical shank. Primary workpiece materials are steel, stainless steel, superalloys, and titanium; secondary workpiece material is cast iron.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC setup technician. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and locked out before tool changes. Seat the shank fully into the holder to the recommended gauge length and torque the clamping mechanism per the holder manufacturer's specification. Confirm runout at the tool tip before beginning a production run, as submicron carbide tooling is sensitive to excessive runout, which accelerates edge wear.
