The GWS 311634 is a solid carbide square end mill designed for high-performance milling across a range of workpiece materials. It features a 1/2 inch diameter with a 1-1/4 inch length of cut and a 3 inch overall length. The 5-flute geometry paired with a 38-degree helix angle promotes efficient chip evacuation and smooth cutting action. An AlCrO-MAX coating improves heat and wear resistance, making this tool well-suited for demanding cutting applications. The shank diameter is 1/2 inch with an h6 tolerance, ensuring consistent fitment in standard toolholders. This end mill is single-end, center-cutting, and runs right-hand cut with right-hand flute direction.
This end mill is appropriate for use in CNC machining centers, manual mills, and high-speed spindle setups across job shops, tool rooms, and production environments. It is rated for use on a broad spectrum of materials, including hardened materials, cast irons, stainless steels, non-ferrous metals, structural steels, and high-temperature alloys, as indicated by primary workpiece material codes H, K, M, N, P, and S. The upcut flute geometry and AlCrO-MAX coating make it particularly effective in applications involving elevated cutting temperatures or abrasive materials. Licensed machinists and CNC operators are the typical end users.
Designed for use in standard 1/2 inch collets, end mill holders, and shrink-fit toolholders on CNC machining centers and manual knee mills. Compatible with materials corresponding to workpiece codes H, K, M, N, P, and S, including hardened steels, cast iron, stainless, aluminum, carbon steel, and superalloys.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist. Ensure the spindle is fully stopped and the machine is powered off or in an e-stop state before inserting or removing the tool. Clean the toolholder bore and shank thoroughly before seating to prevent runout. Confirm proper insertion depth and torque the retention mechanism per the toolholder manufacturer specifications before beginning any cut.
