The GWS 311302 is a solid carbide corner radius end mill built for demanding material removal in steel, stainless steel, superalloys, titanium, and cast iron. It features a 5/8-inch cutting diameter with a 0.03-inch corner radius that reduces edge chipping and extends tool life compared to sharp-corner profiles. The 4-flute, variable-helix, variable-index geometry supports both roughing and finishing passes in a single tool. A submicron carbide grade provides the hardness and toughness required for high-performance CNC machining operations. This tool is installed and operated by machinists and CNC programmers working in job shop, aerospace, or production environments.
The 311302 is suited for vertical and horizontal machining centers running steel and stainless steel workpieces where a short-length end mill with a straight cylindrical shank is preferred. The 1-1/4-inch length of cut and 3-1/2-inch overall length keep the tool compact for rigidity-critical setups. Center-cutting capability allows plunge entries. The tool mounts in standard end mill holders using the 5/8-inch shank diameter with an h6 tolerance shank, making it compatible with precision collet chucks and hydraulic holders common in production machining.
Designed for use with standard end mill holders accepting a 5/8-inch straight cylindrical shank. Primary workpiece materials include steel, stainless steel, superalloys, and titanium; secondary material is cast iron. Not recommended for non-ferrous aluminum or plastic applications where this geometry and grade are not optimized.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist following the machine tool manufacturer torque specifications for the holder type in use. Ensure the spindle is fully stopped and the machine is in a safe, locked-out state before tool changes. Seat the shank fully in the holder to the minimum engagement depth required by the holder manufacturer to prevent pullout under cutting loads. Confirm runout with a dial indicator before committing to a finish pass, as the h6 shank tolerance is designed for precision-fit holders.
