The GWS 310823 is a solid carbide corner radius end mill built for high-performance material removal in ferrous and difficult-to-machine alloys. The cutter measures 3/8 inch in diameter with a 0.06 inch corner radius that blends the floor and wall of a milled pocket to reduce stress risers and extend tool life. With 4 flutes, a variable helix, and a variable index design, it manages chip evacuation and reduces harmonic chatter during aggressive cuts. Overall length is 4 inches with a 1/2 inch length of cut. It is center-cutting, allowing plunge entry, and runs in a right-hand flute direction with right-hand cutting. Designed for use in standard end mill toolholders with a straight cylindrical shank held to h6 tolerance.
This end mill is rated for use on steel, stainless steel, superalloys, titanium, and cast iron, making it a go-to tool for job shop machinists, toolroom operators, and CNC programmers working in aerospace, medical, and general manufacturing environments. The short length type and 1-1/8 inch reach length keep the cutter rigid in confined pockets or multi-axis setups. It is classified as suitable for both roughing and finishing operations, reducing the need to swap tools between passes. The submicron carbide grade supports higher surface footage in hard materials while maintaining edge integrity.
Designed for use with standard end mill toolholders. Suitable for machining steel, stainless steel, superalloys, titanium, and cast iron as primary workpiece materials, with cast iron as a secondary rated material.
Installation is performed by machinists or CNC setup technicians. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and the toolholder is clean and undamaged before seating the shank. Torque the toolholder to the machine manufacturer's specification and confirm runout with a dial indicator before cutting. Do not exceed the rated cutting parameters for the workpiece material being machined.
