The GWS 310489 is a solid carbide square end mill designed for high-performance milling across a broad range of workpiece materials. It features a 0.75-inch cutting diameter and a 2.75-inch length of cut, making it well suited for slotting, profiling, and peripheral milling operations. The AlCrO-MAX coating provides thermal and oxidation resistance, supporting extended tool life in demanding cutting environments. With four flutes and a 38-degree helix angle, the 310489 delivers efficient chip evacuation and smooth surface finishes. It is a centercutting design, allowing direct plunge entry into the workpiece. Licensed machinists and CNC mill operators are the primary users.
The 310489 is rated for use on a wide material range including ferrous steels, cast irons, stainless steels, non-ferrous metals, aluminum alloys, heat-resistant superalloys, and titanium alloys, corresponding to ISO material groups H, K, M, N, P, and S. The upcut right-hand flute geometry with right-hand cut direction makes it compatible with conventional vertical machining centers and CNC milling setups. The 0.75-inch straight shank with h6 tolerance seats securely in standard collet and end mill holders. This is a single-end tool in the GWS Series 2100 lineup, targeted at production and job-shop environments running moderate to high cutting parameters.
Designed for use on workpiece materials in ISO groups H, K, M, N, P, and S, including hardened steels, cast irons, stainless steels, non-ferrous metals, general steels, and heat-resistant superalloys. Compatible with standard 0.75-inch collet chucks, end mill holders, and shrink-fit tooling systems used on CNC vertical machining centers and knee mills.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC setup technician. Ensure the spindle is fully stopped and the machine is in a safe, locked-out state before changing tooling. Seat the shank to full engagement depth in the holder and torque the retention mechanism per the toolholder manufacturer specification. Verify runout with a dial indicator before beginning the first cut, and confirm cutting parameters match the material group and coating recommendations for AlCrO-MAX coated carbide.
