The GWS 310217 is a solid carbide square end mill designed for precision milling in a wide range of materials. The tool features a 3/8 inch cutting diameter with a 1 inch length of cut and a 2-1/2 inch overall length, making it suitable for standard-depth slotting, profiling, and peripheral milling operations. The AlCrO-MAX coating provides thermal and oxidation resistance, extending tool life in demanding cutting conditions. With 4 flutes and a 38-degree helix angle, this end mill delivers efficient chip evacuation and a smooth surface finish. It is centercutting capable, allowing direct plunge entry into workpieces. Licensed machinists and CNC operators in job shop and production environments are the primary users of this tool.
The GWS 310217 is suited for machining a broad spectrum of materials, including cast iron, non-ferrous metals, stainless steel, general steels, high-temperature alloys, and non-metallic materials, corresponding to material codes H, K, M, N, P, and S. Its upcut right-hand flute geometry and right-hand cutting direction make it compatible with standard CNC vertical machining centers and manual knee mills. The 3/8 inch shank with h6 tolerance fits standard ER collets and end mill holders without modification.
Designed as a standard 3/8 inch shank square end mill compatible with ER collets, end mill holders, and other toolholding systems that accept a 3/8 inch straight shank. Suitable for use on CNC vertical machining centers, manual knee mills, and similar milling platforms running right-hand spindle rotation.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC operator. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and the tool holder is clean and free of debris before seating the end mill. Tighten the collet or set screw to the toolholder manufacturer's specified torque. Verify runout with a dial indicator before initiating a cut, particularly in tight-tolerance applications.
