The GWS 310078 is a solid carbide corner radius end mill designed for precision material removal in demanding machining applications. It features a 1/4 inch diameter, a 0.01 inch corner radius, and four flutes arranged in a variable index, variable helix configuration that reduces harmonic vibration and improves surface finish. The 3/8 inch length of cut and 2 inch overall length make this a short-series tool suited to rigid setups. It is center-cutting and right-hand cutting, with a straight cylindrical shank at 1/4 inch diameter holding to h6 tolerance. Installation is performed by machinists and CNC tooling technicians running milling centers and machining cells.
This end mill is built for roughing and finishing operations on steel, stainless steel, superalloys, and titanium as primary workpiece materials, with cast iron as a secondary application. The submicron carbide grade and variable helix geometry make it well suited to high-speed machining of difficult-to-cut alloys. The spiral flute configuration promotes efficient chip evacuation in these materials. It accepts standard end mill toolholders with a 1/4 inch straight bore. No coolant-through capability is present, so external coolant or air blast is recommended when running at elevated feed rates.
Compatible with standard end mill toolholders accepting a 1/4 inch straight cylindrical shank. Primary workpiece materials are steel, stainless steel, superalloys, and titanium; secondary material is cast iron.
Installation is performed by a qualified machinist or CNC setup technician. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and the toolholder is clean and free of debris before seating the end mill. Torque the set screw or collet to the toolholder manufacturer specification. Verify runout at the cutting edge before beginning a production run, as excessive runout accelerates edge wear on carbide tooling.
